Whats New with the SAA chapter at Wayne State!
Submitted by Ronee Francis, Secretary on January 31, 2007.
Wayne State University Society of American Archivists Student Chapter is a non-profit group encouraging professional standards and practices in archival administration. The student group is open and free to those interested in archives and related aspects such as records management. Over the last couple of years we have enjoyed a renaissance in membership and programming along with the encouraging support from the LIS program, professors, professional archivists, and especially those at the Walter P. Reuther Library. Joining the parent (SAA) or state (MAA) organizations is not a requirement although we stress the importance and benefits of becoming professionally active.
Exciting plans for 2007 are underway. In the past, programming has included panel discussions, resume reviews, Web seminars, archive tours and lectures by special guests such as the SAA President Elizabeth Adkins. To help support current and future programming, the WSU-SAA student group has begun fundraising by selling t-shirts and sweatshirts with the wording "100% Acid Free" and the SAA logo. These have been wildly popular and a new "What is past is prologue" line will be available shortly. A portion of sales is being contributed to a new WSU Archival Administration Scholarship for non-traditional students. Please help support two worthy causes!
To find out information on programming and the date of our next meeting please go to the WSU-SAA homepage: http://www.lisp.wayne.edu/saa/index.html. T-shirts and sweatshirts can be viewed and ordered at http://www.beyondarchives.com/index_files/wsusaa.htm or email Ronee Francis at au5071@wayne.edu
We especially encourage new students to come to a meeting and check us out. The earlier you join in your educational journey the more you will learn from being part of a professional group. Find out what the buzz is about!
